US Cities With the Fewest Castle Venues (2026)

The flip side of where the castles are: big American cities without a castle wedding venue inside the city limits. These are the 30 most populous US cities (100,000+ residents) with zero or one castle venue in our 952-venue national directory — 19.4 million people between them. Castles are rare and rarely sit downtown, so this is expected — but it tells you exactly which metros' couples are driving out to the surrounding estates and countryside for their fairytale. Top of the table: Chicago, Illinois — 2,721,308 people, a single castle venue inside city limits. The biggest city with none at all is San Diego, California (1,404,452 residents — 14 of the 30 cities are at zero). Read it fairly: counts are within city limits, and castles are rural or estate settings by nature. A zero here doesn't mean the metro has no castle weddings — it means they happen at the grand venues just outside the line.

Methodology: castle counts from our continuously maintained national directory of 952 castle, château, and palace wedding venues (public business listings, filtered to genuine wedding-capable castles). City universe = incorporated places and consolidated city-governments with 100,000+ residents, US Census 2024 estimates; census names normalized to everyday names (Nashville-Davidson → Nashville) so no city is falsely flagged. Venues are matched to cities by the city name on their address. Refreshed with each re-crawl — cities graduate off this list when a castle opens.
