The living history experiences at Smith's Castle are wonderful! From fun events, like afternoon teas and beverage tastings, to colonial tours and talks to walking trails, gardens and full-day educational events - something for everyone. If you love history, you must stop by this beautiful location.
A hidden historical home. It’s not a castle at all but a site of very interesting Rhode Island history beginning with the Narragansett native Americans and Roger Williams.
What a delightful tour from Catherine! Walking through the historic building was fascinating, educational, and fun. As a real estate professional, I appreciated the education on architecture and construction methods; the little portholes left in the walls during the last renovation gave us glimpses inside the walls.
Me and my family visited Smith's Castle about a week and a half ago. Shout out to John for bringing out the historical details I would've never noticed, and to Amy for making the experience very special! The guides were awesome and didn't shy away from the more sensitive areas of American history either.
Getting married at Smith's Castle
A castle wedding is the once-in-a-lifetime, storybook kind — the grand staircase, the ballroom, the gardens and turrets your photos will live on forever. Castle weddings commonly run $10,000–$40,000+ depending on the date, guest count, and how much is included, so ask for a written quote for your season — Smith's Castle doesn’t publish a set price, and tiers move fast. Two things make the tour worth the drive. First, see it at the time of day you’d actually get married — a ballroom that glows at golden hour can feel very different at noon, and you’ll want to walk the path your guests take from the gates to the ceremony to the reception. Second, bring your real questions: what’s included with the venue fee (tables, chairs, setup, teardown), the catering and bar policy, whether you can stay overnight on-site, the rain plan for a garden ceremony, and the music curfew. Fairytale dates at castle venues book 12–18 months out, so if the tour feels right, ask what’s open in your season before you leave.
