Inside the castle
From the reviews
You should visit Francis Park outside of Kewanee, Illinois on Route 34 east of Kewanee. Fred Francis was an eccentric. He built Woodland Palace for his ailing wife and the tour is a must! The park is in the country with camping sites. Very popular, quiet setting with hiking trails. There are restrooms.
What a neat little gem nestled on the outskirts of Kewanee!! Next time we are here we will take the tour of the Woodland Palace!!
It looks lovely but please note, they do not do tours any day that it's over 85°. The gentleman we spoke to said that they don't want to open the windows because the humidity will damage the woodwork, and as such, it gets very hot in there and they are worried people will pass out and sue (which has already happened…
I loved this place. Looking and learning about the man that built it for his wife ,amazing . And the tour guide that takes care of the place is the best . People need to go and check this place out.
Getting married at Woodland Palace
A castle wedding is the once-in-a-lifetime, storybook kind — the grand staircase, the ballroom, the gardens and turrets your photos will live on forever. Castle weddings commonly run $10,000–$40,000+ depending on the date, guest count, and how much is included, so ask for a written quote for your season — Woodland Palace doesn’t publish a set price, and tiers move fast. Two things make the tour worth the drive. First, see it at the time of day you’d actually get married — a ballroom that glows at golden hour can feel very different at noon, and you’ll want to walk the path your guests take from the gates to the ceremony to the reception. Second, bring your real questions: what’s included with the venue fee (tables, chairs, setup, teardown), the catering and bar policy, whether you can stay overnight on-site, the rain plan for a garden ceremony, and the music curfew. Fairytale dates at castle venues book 12–18 months out, so if the tour feels right, ask what’s open in your season before you leave.
