From the reviews
The architecture of this building was amazing! They had a movie that is a must-see. It really gave you the history. It's only $2, so it's worth it. They have a room that gives the chronologic dates of the state capital. Very informative! They even have the Merci Train car from France out front.
Absolutely gorgeous! Stunning architecture and stained glass. Wonderfully pleasant employees. Cute gift shop with great Louisiana gifts. I didn't have time to look at the museum much but it looked very well laid out and informative.
We absolutely loved our visit to Louisiana’s Old State Capitol! The building is an architectural masterpiece—every inch packed with incredible craftsmanship and attention to detail. The stained glass dome is truly over the top in the best way, casting colorful light across the ornate interior.
This was an awesome site. If you are into architecture at all, you'll love taking a tour through this place. The staircase and the atrium ceiling were stunning. We got there late, so we had to kinda skip through it, but feel we got to take most of it in and enjoy it.
Getting married at Louisiana's Old State Capitol
A castle wedding is the once-in-a-lifetime, storybook kind — the grand staircase, the ballroom, the gardens and turrets your photos will live on forever. Castle weddings commonly run $10,000–$40,000+ depending on the date, guest count, and how much is included, so ask for a written quote for your season — Louisiana's Old State Capitol doesn’t publish a set price, and tiers move fast. Two things make the tour worth the drive. First, see it at the time of day you’d actually get married — a ballroom that glows at golden hour can feel very different at noon, and you’ll want to walk the path your guests take from the gates to the ceremony to the reception. Second, bring your real questions: what’s included with the venue fee (tables, chairs, setup, teardown), the catering and bar policy, whether you can stay overnight on-site, the rain plan for a garden ceremony, and the music curfew. Fairytale dates at castle venues book 12–18 months out, so if the tour feels right, ask what’s open in your season before you leave.
