This was my first visit, but not my last. Journey up a winding narrow road to the top of the hill and the "castle," which is basically a viewing tower. There is no parking lot, but we were the only ones there at the time. There is a picnic table and, of course, wonderful views.
Elk Mound Hill Castle is a really neat and free attraction that is worth checking out. The road going up to the castle is only open from May 1 - October 31, but there is a park right near the entrance that you can park at and make the short, but uphill trek to the castle.
Awesome relic! Treat this with respect and cherish it as an amazing little 'castle' to explore! Tall trees blocked any chance of a view of Eau Claire but still an amazing view of the surrounding area, but more cool is the building itself!
just on the way to Madison from Minneapolis and found few stops to relax to avoid fatigue driving. you can enjoy a great view when you climb up to the castle Btw, The road up the mountain is slippery and be careful to drive slowly.
