From the reviews
Castle Craig was a really cool place to visit. The park does close around 5pm and there is a gate at the entrance that will be closed, so make sure you go there with enough time to enjoy. You will drive a couple miles up to the top and the road is windy with several pot holes, so pay attention...
This spot was on my to visit for this summer and the 2hr drive from NYC NY was worth it. You can literally see the castle/tower from the highway. From the entrance to the top is exactly 3 miles. There's no fee to enter or park. The portion of the drive up has multiple speed bumps so be aware.
During the winter you won't be able to drive your way to the castle. There is a parking lot at the bottom. Take the white trail that leads you to the half way house. This is about a 30min hike through the snow and woods.
A Must go! Castle Craig and Hubbard Park Castle Craig, nestled within the beautiful Hubbard Park in Meriden, Connecticut, is an absolute gem for anyone seeking a peaceful yet vibrant outdoor experience.
